What is the difference between traditional body shop repairs and paintless dent removal (PDR)?

This is a question that the average consumer often does not understand. The first thing I want to say is that you don’t need to understand to benefit from the advantages of paintless dent repair. I always recommend that you have a dent checked by a PDR company first. A paintless repair is going to be cheaper, and a better repair (if performed by a great technician).

There are a lot of ways to explain it, although I’ve come to like this one:
In both traditional body repair and PDR, the dented metal is reformed back to its original shape and condition. The difference is that a PDR technician reshapes it in a way that doesn’t harm the factory paint finish. The traditional repair method damages the paint and metal in a way that requires body filler (Bondo) and new paint to get a nice finish.
